Demand response in Sweden's strategic reserve
Energy-intensive industry has been an active participant in the Nordic electricity market. In Sweden, strategic reserve arrangements include demand reductions. At the time these arrangements were introduced, a study indicated that Swedish industries could face reductions lasting between 30 minutes and 3 hours each day.
In this report, Urban Hammarstedt and Mats Nilsson map existing regulatory and commercial arrangements that facilitate the participation of the demand side in Sweden's strategic reserve. The report also looks at the experience of Swedish TSO Svenska Kraftnät when including demand in the annual tender for the strategic reservem and at the commercial incentives companies have to be a part of this reserve
